My primary role is a Solutions Architect, which basically means I design and scope client solutions, drive best practice both internally and on client projects, and generally play around with the technical bits of SharePoint.
I have been involved in IT and software development since before I graduated from Loughborough University in 2003, where I was awarded a BSc (Hons) in Computing and Management. My enthusiasm has typically been programming (from VB6 and VBA and SQL, through to the .Net revolution (VB.Net) and then embracing the joy of C# and eventually SharePoint!), although I have also worn the hat of Systems Administrator, DBA and Systems Engineer in my time (including training courses on Windows Server 2003 administration and managing Active Directory and Group Policy).
In recent years though my passion has definately been SharePoint. I started out mostly with SharePoint 2003, and went through the birthing pains of MOSS 2007 (documentation?? what documentation?) where I really started to hit my stride. I managed to attain all 4 of the MCTS qualifications in SharePoint 2007 in just over 6 months (both the Application Development and Configuration ones for both WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007) and was among the first people in the world to achieve the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: WSS 3.0 Application Development also being awarded Charter Member status.
I joined Content and Code in 2008 and had 2 thoroughly enjoyable years architecting great global enterprise SharePoint projects and cutting my teeth on SharePoint 2010! In November 2010 I set out independently (setting up my own company Hatch Solutions Ltd) and am currently working on contracting projects.
I am also constantly in awe of the great community spirit that SharePoint has, and regularly attend the SharePoint User Group UK (SUGUK) as well as other community activites. I have also been seen speaking at SUGUK, and was one of the speakers at this years SharePoint Evolution Conference 2010 (previously the European Best Practice conference).
